Welcome to the International Rugby Academy of
New Zealand (IRANZ)
IRANZ is the world's first truly international rugby academy. With the growth of professionalism in rugby there is a real demand for quality rugby education. IRANZ courses are designed specifically to assist in progressing or achieving a career in playing or coaching rugby, and more importantly, to achieve excellence in this area.
The International Rugby Academy plays a crucial role in New Zealand's player and coach development, holding well-established relationships with various New Zealand clubs, schools and provincial unions. In 2001, IRANZ signed an alliance agreement with the New Zealand Rugby Union to deliver player and coaches courses at it's national academy in Palmerston North.
After more than fifteen years in operation, IRANZ has received player and coach participants from the following unions: New Zealand, South Africa, England, Australia, Scotland, USA, Fiji, Korea, the majority of English premiership academies and Japanese company teams. All in all, IRANZ has hosted players and coaches from over 30 countries.
THE PURPOSE OF THE ACADEMY
The International Rugby Academy provides inspiration and an independent high performance pathway for promising players and coaches from around the world. We foster an internal culture of creativity and innovation that provides a leading edge learning environment for the global rugby fraternity.
Our aim is to lay a solid foundation to prepare players and coaches for the uncompromising world of professional rugby. For players, there is a strong focus on position-specific tuition, mental toughness, rugby intelligence and skill development. For coaches, it is a rare opportunity to work intensively with the world’s best coaches in a practical environment developing a structure and blueprint they can take home and use with their own team.
We offer High Performance programmes to create the complete professional with emphasis on technical, tactical, and mental skills development. This is achieved by delivering specialist and 'Position Specific Coaching', through former and current international coaches and players. High Performance programmes have a staff coach to applicant ratio of 1:1 and focus on core and team values to have maximum impact.
The coaching staff at IRANZ represent some of the most influential players and coaches in world rugby in recent times.
