In February 2017, IRANZ were pleased to welcome back All Black Coaches Wayne Smith, Mike Cron and Steve Hansen to coach on our High Performance Programmes.
Coming in at various times throughout the 2-3 week courses, our Players and Coaches were able to soak-up every minute of their coaching – as each of them focused on their specific areas of expertise.
Attending the course for one full day, current All Black Head Coach Steve Hansen held a number of whiteboard and practical sessions with both the players and coaches – focusing on team preparation, team environments and also some focused work around continuity.
To learn directly from the Head Coach of arguably one of the greatest sides in Rugby history, was a huge privilege for all involved.
Wayne Smith, the current All Black Assistant Coach, focused his sessions on core rugby skills, attack and decision-making – but also doubled as the First Five-Eighth (10) Position-Specific coach. This allowed our two first-five participants to work 1-on-1 with the All Black Coach.
Below is a short clip of Wayne Smith working with the all the players on general attack skills. The focus of this drill was for players to run and attack holes in the defensive line, rather than running square-on at defenders.
Mike Cron, took the Players and Coaches primarily focused on technical skills around the contact area. And of course, as you would expect from the man dubbed "The Scrum Doctor", he took the forwards through a number of scrummaging skills and drills.
Below is a short clip of a drill Cron suggested using to improve scrummaging strength.
Here at IRANZ, we provide a direct link for players and coaches to World-Class coaches and mentors – ensuring you have the best opportunity to improve and reach your potential as a player or coach.
