In February 2016, a group of coaches and young rugby players from Club Atlético del Rosario arrived in New Zealand. As a unit, they travelled to Palmerston North to attend a customised course at IRANZ.
This week, they were crowned National Club Champions of Argentina.
After hearing of the opportunity to work directly with some of New Zealand’s finest rugby players and coaches, Club Atlético del Rosario enquired about attending a customised course. In discussion with IRANZ management and staff coaches, the club formed a three-week programme that included over 70 players and half a dozen coaches.
The objective of the course was to completely change the way their players and coaches approached the game of rugby – ultimately, to enhance their performance.
Working directly with IRANZ staff coaches, each player and coach learned the crucial technical, tactical, physical and mental skills required of high performance rugby. The course programme also included multiple matches against local competition in New Zealand, which allowed the IRANZ staff coaches to work with Rosario’s coaches and players in live scenarios.
Alongside the Rosario coaches, the IRANZ staff also profiled the players and identified each team’s various strengths and weaknesses. These profiles assisted the coaches to formulate a strategy and game plan for each of their teams.
Fast forward 8 months, and Rosario’s Under 15, Under 17, and Under 19 teams had won their respective grades in their local competition. Each of these teams were made up of players and coaches that had attended IRANZ earlier this year.
The Under 19 team also went on to compete in the National Club Championship of Argentina.
Employing the various strategies and techniques learned on the course, Rosario were victorious. In beating Tucumán University 24-17 in the final, Club Atlético del Rosario were crowned the Under-19 National Club Champions of Argentina, 2016.
